Mouth ulcers are very common.

If you have not indulged in oral sex chances of it being caused by an STD are remote.

Syphilis causes a chancre which is painless. Ulcers are extremely painful.

There are many possible causes of mouth ulcers:

1. Apthous ulcers / canker sores

These are the usual ulcers that people get and can be caused by dehydration, trauma (eg biting your own gums, eating prawns, crabs etc) or most of the time we do not even know the cause.

2. Infections

STDs like HSV and Syphilis can cause mouth ulcers.

Non-STDs like HFMD also cause mouth ulcers

3. Drug reaction

Allergies to drugs can cause mouth ulcers. This can be a sign of something more severe like Stevens Johnson Syndrome.

Certain drugs especially chemotherapy drugs cause high cell turnover leading to sloughing of the mucosa and multiple painful ulcers.

4. Cancers

Squamous cell cancer or other cancers can present as a non-healing ulcer.

I've developed mouth ulcer one only and gout pain on my toe. This is one week after exposed to one paid sex. The symptom has been with me for one week and I've never experience mouth ulcer this persistent.

I've paid $350 for a full std body checkup. How much do I pay for HSV or Syphilis ?
