What about insurance cover? More concerned about medical insurance as health for those above 50 tend to deteriorate. I do have medical insurance policies but the insurance companies told me that their cover is specific to me being resident in Singapore. It does not cover if I move to live overseas.

Haha bro WarPig you also jump to this thread!

Well if you relocate to overseas then just buy a term insurance over there or return to Singapore for your medical needs.

Yes, I'm also not cover yet. Did check a few insurance companies to compare but not decided yet, just feel that the amount paid is not worth for the coverage. So now I just prepare 1 million baht in my bank for my own coverage, and if condition is worst I will just fly back (only 3 hours flight) and check in to sg hospital lor, we're all cover and paid for the new medisave policy anyway.

Also, I got a travel insurance coverage but is useless unless I go back sg every 90 days.

Yes since Medishield Life is compulsory and deducted from Medisave might as well make use of it when the need arises.
No point wasting money buying term insurance in a foreign country.

A travel insurance bought in Singapore is good enough.
For those long term residents just buy annual coverage policy.

I buy a simple insurance package in thai for 6000 baht a year(company paid) and SG I using the AIA Max Gold coverage. Thailand insurance is for emergency like accident, etc that need to admitted immediately. SG full coverage is to protect my medisave.

Saw my friend near to 50s and due to some illness 60+k medisave nearly wipeout I scare...

Actually I scare also, that's why still keep looking for other solution. Beside, the sg hospital cost is also much higher compare to Thailand, even with the Medishield Life is still high compare to Thailand govt hospital.

Did check with Bupa insurance and most properly will get it when I turn older, now still young and fit dun want to waste money yet eieiei.

Think of it this way in our lifetime we'll never be able to retrieve Medisave funds in cold hard cash until the day we up lorry.
Your entire CPF balance will then be inherited by Next-of-Kin through GIRO.

I dare not to say... even 10 years I also top up cash $4k plus only... 1 time admitted hospital also worth it liao. Cover everything even for private hospital.

Qin qin cai cai 1 hemorrhoid gov hospital also $3-4k liao... private hospital $10k. Worth to buy lah... I sound like a insurance agent 555

Re: Re-location advice

I do concur with many of the members advice here that is to stay and work in sg.. retire and come back at later part when u have accumulate sizeable amount of saving. However, for god sake if you do have the intention, start planning and action early...
contrary to popular belief, it is possible to make money doing business in bkk if you have the right thai partner and expertise to help you manage. 3 years ago, my thai gf and me setup a small business in bkk doing wholesales.. and manage to kick off well... at that point of time, many of my friends think it simply wouldn't survive... high rental, low purchasing power of thais, too competitive, etc... and i also do think it is not workable if not because my thai gf lost her job and we are at wit ends of what to do, i probably wouldn't want to part with the money to do the business... the rental at a good and popular location cost us close to 60k thb per month... i was very lucky to break even on the 2nd month.. just to share and lend support to some bros who is thinking to do business in Thailand. success prevails those who dare to venture and think the impossible.

Although that being said, we are only at the 3rd year and certainly do not know how things will turn out in the future (cross finger) but at least I have passed the phase 1 and is trying hard to maintain on the course. Do not get discourage by people comments or remarks. If you think it is a great idea, just put all your heart and mind to do it... do like what bill gates or jack ma had done when nobody think it is a great idea to start off with.

Cheap is one thing for small illnesses but Thailand government hospital got standard or not?
I dare you to try using China government hospital.
I flew back to Singapore specially just to see government hospital specialist.

Anyway for minor illnesses just go to any Thai pharmacy to buy medicine will do.
One thing good about Thailand is that the medicine is very effective.

Re: Re-location advice

Jking, you posted a very important point. Thai partner fully determine your success or failure. You pull it off because of her. Sadly, a lot of bros here got a thai gf and wanted to set up a business and live in LOS only to know that the gf has no intention to put in such a huge effort.

When they want you to stay in Thai with them, they will say all things that make you take out the money to build a business. When reality sets in and they realized how much effort they must put in, they will come out with 100 reasons why it's not their fault/laziness causes it to fail.

Another scenario, they didn't expect you to stay in thai but just want you to fly up and down to visit them. You are the one that yearn to stay in thai. You will start to come out with ideas to build a small cheap business but the problem is your poxy point is still her.

My advise is, if you really cannot wait to stay in thai but still do not have the financial ability, find a SG company that willing to let you stationed in Thai but pay you in SGD with CPF. Start looking for these company and sooner or later you will find it. 2 things will turn out after a few years, you will either decided to come back to sg or you have found the perfect business you want to build in Thai. The downside of this advise is you cannot choose where you want to be located in Thai, just like me... stuck in Rayong.
